Questions to bring to a neurology appointment

Appointments are short, and it is easy to leave realizing you forgot the thing you most wanted to ask. A written list helps. Here is a starting set for restless legs; trim it to what fits your situation.

About the cause

  • Will you check my ferritin and transferrin saturation? What levels are you aiming for?
  • Could any of my other medications be making my RLS worse?
  • Is there anything besides RLS that could explain what I am feeling?

About treatment

  • Given the 2024 guideline, what would you start with in my case?
  • If iron is part of the plan, oral or IV, and why?
  • What are the trade-offs of the medication you are suggesting?

If you are already on a dopamine agonist

  • Could my symptoms be augmentation rather than the condition getting worse?
  • Should we be thinking about coming off it, and how would that work?
  • What do we do if symptoms flare during a change?

Before the appointment ends

  • What is the plan if this does not work, and when should I check back?
  • How do I reach you if things get worse in the meantime?

Writing down the answers, or bringing someone who can, means you still have the plan a week later.

RestlessLimbs is run by people who have these conditions, not by medical professionals. Nothing here is medical advice. Decisions about iron, medication, and treatment belong with your doctor.
