Privacy

RestlessLimbs is a community forum run by people who live with these conditions. This page explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've kept it in plain language.

What we collect

  • Account details: the email address, display name, and password you provide when you register. Passwords are stored only as a secure hash, never in plain text.
  • What you post: your discussions, replies, and profile information. Anything you post in a public group can be read by anyone and may be indexed by search engines.
  • Technical information: basic server logs, including your IP address and browser type, used to keep the site secure and working (for example, limiting abuse and sign-in attempts).
  • Cookies: a small number, to keep you signed in and remember your session. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How we use it

  • To run the forum: create your account, sign you in, and show your posts.
  • To contact you when needed: password resets and notifications you've opted into, sent through a third-party email service so they reach your inbox.
  • To keep the community safe: moderation, and protecting against spam and abuse.

What we don't do

  • We don't run ads.
  • We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
  • We don't track you around the web.

Public posts and your health information

RestlessLimbs is a patient community, not a doctor's office or a healthcare provider. Laws like HIPAA that protect medical records do not apply here. Anything you share in a public group is public — please share only what you're comfortable having others read, and think carefully before posting details that identify you.

Your choices

  • Edit or delete your own posts.
  • Unsubscribe from notification emails anytime using the link in those emails.
  • Ask us to delete your account and personal information, and we'll take care of it.

Data retention

We keep your account and posts while your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal information, though copies may remain in backups for a limited time before they age out.

Children

RestlessLimbs is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Security

We protect your data with measures like password hashing and encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update this page.
